Curiosity is what drives K-TIMES editors to gain new knowledge.
So what exactly is K-Town Community? As the first issue, we must feature the origin of this magazine as well as the founder of it.
Q1. What is K-Town Community?
K-Town Community is an organization dedicated to providing professional business services for start-ups. We are a consultancy organisation that not only provides start-up services but also comprehensive analysis for their business so they could 100% focus on the development of their products or services. Kennedy Town is not the only place we provide service to, we also have clients from different places all over the world who wish to extend their business through our hands and it is our mission to connect startups.
If K-Town Community were an object, it would be a train. A train that uses its engine to drive momentum for its passengers (start-ups) and send them to the destination.
Q2. How did you get the idea or concept of K-Town Community?
At first, my partner and I formed Smithfield COLLECTIVE, a coworking space in Kennedy Town, it serves its purpose to support the development of some local start-ups. Once I got into the scene, I soon realized a successful startup business needs way more than just a good work place. The establishment of K-Town Community is to allow startups to do what they have always been good at doing under a professional atmosphere in a coworking friendly community without having to spend much time on things that are not in their core competencies.
Q3. What sector did you work on before starting your own business?
I studied Law and Finance in university, soon after I graduated, I worked in the stock exchange and bank for a period of time.
The financial industry fascinates me and I have spent most of my career in a few prominent banks. I believe the experience and knowledge I gained are what makes me confident to serve our members.
Q4. What makes K-Town Community different to other communities?
We utilize our professional knowledge to help startups and reach out to a bigger community. Hong Kong entrepreneurs are hard working, working long hours. We bring to them a lot of events and workshops to relieve their stress. At the same time, we offer professional lectures, so they could absorb the relevant knowledge to the extent that it helps their business.
The emerging trend of new restaurants and start-ups in this old town on top of its geographical location gives this city a mixed culture and a great atmosphere for our community.
Q5. Why did you focus your business on start-ups?
I am impressed with Hong Kong people’s creativity! If we could make use of these good qualities, and apply to financial technology, it would further enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong.
Q6. What is the one thing that you like the most about Kennedy Town?
Food! I think I might have spent too much time on just thinking and deciding what to eat during lunch time. I feel like there is always new restaurants coming into the town.
